You’ll get a better deal if you buy directly from the owner.
Not true. In the majority of cases the property’s value is distinct and therefore asking price does not change regardless of whether there is an agent involved. One of the downsides is first of all that you will have to negotiate directly with the seller and neither of you may be good at it. Buying or selling a home is a very emotional experience for everyone while experience has shown that deals often fall apart because emotions get in the way. The other problem is that both parties want to save the real estate commission but there is only one commission to save.
